About Me

If we teach today, like we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow-John Dewey

Time to welcome you to my blog. I’m glad you made your way here! I am new to blogging and I’m looking forward to expanding my horizons as well as the horizons of anyone who chooses to join me on my journey. Only time will tell how far I’m able to take this. Earl Nightingale says, “Don't let the fear of the time it will take to accomplish something stand in the way of your doing it. The time will pass anyway; we might just as well put that passing time to the best possible use.” With this quote in mind I think it’s important to acknowledge that educating children and teachers is time well spent and what better way to do this then through a blog!
Time to explain to you what I’m up to right now professionally.  First I am excited to tell you that I have been a teacher for over 25 years and I am as much in love with teaching today as I was when I started all those years ago.

  • I taught 4th grade for 9 years and currently I’m teaching 2nd grade with a great team of co-teachers.
  • I am just finishing up my first year in the master’s program and look forward to finishing my Masters in Educational Technology next summer.
  • At this time I am a part of a Curriculum Teacher Leader Team that is helping to facilitate a smooth transition with our 1:1 tablet initiative that our district implemented last year.  Yay district!!
  • I am also a part of a K-2 Vertical Team where we are working on refining our report cards, rubrics and benchmarks to better follow the common core structure.
  • I also started a professional development project at my current school where I’m helping to engage, excite and empower teachers in technology.  Lucky for me I have a great team of teachers at my school who have stepped up to help me make Tech Time a success; even though we are baby stepping it right now!
  • A professional goal that I am working on now is to become a Google Certified Innovator.

Time to tell you about me personally.  I have been truly blessed to be married to my high school sweetheart for the past 29 years.  Saying that out loud helps me to realize that time is flying by.  I am a mother of  two amazing (I know everyone always says that, but honestly it’s true) children.  My son is going to be finishing college next semester with a business degree and then he will be going to law school . My daughter will be starting her third year in college with a dream to be a teacher and a life-long cheer coach.  I enjoy spending time with my family traveling or having game night and eating the most yummy desserts we can think of.  I also enjoy spending time reading; so much so that I started a book club 6 years ago, just so I could talk, discuss, debate etc. with others about the books I was reading (my husband was a fan of this idea).  Another passion of mine is working with my husband, through our church, mentoring young couples before they get married.  I can’t think of a better way to spend time then trying to help others start their marriage out on the right foot.  Lastly, I like to spend time in my garden, at our coast house, and breaking bread with our friends and family.

If I had more time I would like to spend it figuring out Twitter and exploring more blogs so that I could help my students, peers and district be all that they can be.
